Best Young Scientist Award-2012

Innovation is vital to a healthy national economy. Cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams help create some of our most popular products, from the iPod (software, hardware, user researchers) to new medical devices. In addition, innovation across multiple disciplines is essential for solving some of the country’s most pressing problems, from fixing a ruptured oil well on the ocean floor to providing clean energy sources. Science and engineering teams are,
as a result, increasingly multi- and/or interdisciplinary. Funding agencies have recognized that solving complex problems often requires teams from multiple disciplines, and universities are continuing to develop cross-disciplinary programs. National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) wants to appreciate all disciplines of Sciences, that is why NAYS and PSF come this year with Best Young Scientist Award 2012 in
Interdisciplinary Sciences.
Instructions for Nominees
The researchers in the field of Interdisciplinary Research will be judged on the basis of quality of research, particularly contributing towards the product, discovery, phenomenon which interact at least two disciplines together (Biophysics, computational sciences etc).
• Nominees can download application forms in electronic format from the website of NAYS.
• Application form must be completed in every sense, supported by the relevant documents.
• Candidates must provide their CV and separate publication list with application form.
• Any Pakistani young researcher who is of age 30 or younger is eligible. There will be no relaxation in age limit.
• The Research work must be done in Pakistan.
• The decision of Jury will be final.
• Winners will be asked to give presentation of their research projects on Award ceremony (15-20 min presentation)
• All the application should email to Project Coordinator through email at awards@nays.com.pk

The applications should be emailed at awards@nays.com.pk to project coordinator till 31st June 2012 (only online applications will entertained).

A committee comprise of eminent Scientists will select the best young researcher of Interdisciplinary Sciences.
Result will be announced on 14th Aug, 2012 on NAYS website www.nays.com.pk

National Academy of science is the great forum for the young researchers in Pakistan

In medical sciences it is rare for a doctor to complete the postgraduate studies before 30.
Moreover in international competitions the age limit for young researcher is upto 40 years.
I feel this criteria of less than 30 years will automatically disqualify any medical researcher.

Dear Sir/Madam,
In the international community the age limit is 40 year and you can have a look to any Young Scientist Scholarship therfore it cant be called as Young Scientist Award the name need to be changed.

Dear Sir,
I need two clarifications;
i) Whether the age limit is really 30 years? If yes, please revise the criteria for the age limit upto 40 years, which is infact an international standard as well as standard maintained by HEC (outstanding research awards, best young researcher, etc.).
ii) If fist suggestion is considered, then please extend the last date of application submission accordingly.

Why this is necessary that the research work should have been done in Pakistan. The person who is foreign graduated and who also fulfill the other criteria for this award should be encouraged by considering his research work done outside Pakistan. I agree with the comments of Dr. Shah – I would say the bringing the overseas Pakistani Researchers and Scientists together on single platform by such activities would certainly help the nation. Such activity involving overseas Pakistani would motivate and promote research collaboration projects in Pakistan.
I must say that for this – the age limit for young researchers and scientists should meet the international criteria – which nominate as 40 year.
Look forward for further progress.

I will somewhat disagree with the Dr. Shah. Research work conducted in Pakistan is certainly more useful for the progress of the country. Therefore, NAYS prefer it. Yes, sometimes the research work conducted outside of the country is also beneficial for Pakistan. Therefore, NAYS should prefer scientists achieved success in the fields most important for the progress of the country.
This can simply be achieved by asking details of potential benefits of the project for Pakistan along with nomination.
I hope that NAYS will look into the matter and the big minds may come up with a more suitable decision.

As i have already discussed about age limit for young scientist should be atleast 40 year. As this is criteria for age limit for award from HEC, Zoological congress etc.

The age limit should be 40 years instead of 30 because, most of the Ph.D’s are above 30 years of age.

HEC has announced the results and ceremony is on 25th September 2013 at HEC Auditorium.
Along with this HEC should publish the details of applicants in all fields along with their score. Because in all fields every section has points.
If its so what is meant by reviewing authority. Just to grant to some one special.
